Weekend Shenanigans
This weekend was filled with wonderful (simple) moments. On Saturday, I had good puppy appointments, fun visits with new people, fun send-offs with returning families and excited first-time puppy owners, and a selection.
Today was great. Jim agreed to finish the Singer sewing table project—I've been working on that for five years. We went to the antique mall, and he purchased a tabletop mirror that will sit on the new Singer makeup table—I'm so excited!
Before we headed out, Jim offered to take me out to lunch. Instead, at my request, he went to the store and bought the ingredients for corned beef paninis. As always, he cut mine to make a heart - love him!
We had a really nice day.
Before he completely lost the ability to speak, he would tell me he loved me 30+ times a day, over and over. During a conversation with my sons, they shared the same. If there was one thing he definitely wanted us to know, it was that we were loved. During his final days, he reached up and ran his finger on my cheek and made eye contact one last time.
I know that throughout his journey, Jim knew who I was. He settled, looked up at the sound of my voice, and said he’d cooperate more. He knew I loved him.
He's always been and always will be the man of my dreams … but that guy is rarely seen any more … he took my hand, kissed it, and held it as he fell asleep the other night … so he's still there .. just hidden. That's the guy it's really hard to lose.
