Before I Forget
An epiphany .. writing down my weekly assignment BEFORE I forget .. is this progress or simply acknowledging my mental shortcomings? Ha!
Should I choose to accept this week's assignment? I should look for hobbies/interests and explore making connections with others who have similar interests.
After careful consideration, I have decided to modify the assignment. Perhaps I have an aversion to lessons and classes, heaven knows I've taken enough. Another of my mother's efforts to "e a good mom". This is a list of lessons I took growing up.
violin
guitar
ice skating
horseback riding
sculpture
cake decorating
tennis
stained glass
ballet
ballroom dancing
modeling
cotillion
belly dancing
photo developing
a year-long class in photo editing
Piano
I should say, I can do a little bit of a lot of things, but I'm proficient at none.
Instead of finding something new, I'd like to go back to some things I derived great pleasure in before Jim got sick. I love participating in Photo-a-Day by Fat Mum Slim on Instagram, She recently shared that she began the daily prompts twelve years ago and I joined the group two months into the fun. I've participated ever since, certainly sporadically in the last few years. The June assignment came out yesterday. Rather than a different prompt each day, it's a month of gratitude. I will commit to taking a photo each day of something I'm grateful for.
The other thing I enjoy doing is cooking and setting a pretty table. I'd like to commit to trying new recipes once a week and making the table pretty for that meal.
I realize both can remain solitary activities, but that's who I am. Both activities will be returning to things I loved for me ,,, Jim was always my willing food guinea pig,, although he frequently wished I could scale back on the amount. I thought the poor man would pop when I served enough sushi for a large crowd. My kitchen was covered in sticky rice.
The time I went to the cornfield for fresh corn to make sweet corn tamales was a day-long project .. they were delicious, however, I found them in the William Sonoma catalog the NEXT day ... from the restaurant I'd gotten the recipe from ... ugh!!! Mine were fab, I would have paid the $40 charge to have them delivered though.
